BELLARY: ‘Naada Habba' Dassara was celebrated with traditional gaiety and religious fervour in Bellary district on Sunday.
In Hospet, ‘Kusti' (wrestling) matches were held at the taluk stadium as part of the Dasara celebrations on Sunday. Wrestling is a popular sport in this part and matches are organised often. ‘Kusti', which acquired prominence during the Vijayanagar rule, continues to enjoy the same status even today. There are several places in and around Hampi and Hospet city to groom young ‘pehalwans' (wrestlers). ‘Pehalwans' from several places including Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur in Maharashtra, Bijapur, Davanagere, Ranebennur, Bellary districts participated in the matches here.
