Wrestling academy in Haryana

Chandigarh, Nov 22 (PTI) Haryana government has decided to soon open a Wrestling Academy in Jhajjar district to promote traditional sports among the enthusiastic youth of the state. Member of Parliament from Rohtak Deepender Singh Hooda today said that he would propose to Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to open this Academy at Bahadurgarh sub-division of the district.
Deepender was addressing a gathering at a function organised to felicitate Wrestler Praveen Tehlan at village Jassorkheri of Bahadurgarh who had brought laurels to the country by winning the bronze medal at Canada World Cup Wrestling Championship, an official release said here. The people of village Jassorkheri gave a warm welcome to the wrestler for excelling at an international event.
Congratulating Praveen Tehlan for his achievement, the young MP said that it was a matter of extreme pride for the people of this area that Praveen had achieved success at the international arena. He said that Wrestler of village Asodha, Rajanish Dalal had also been victorious in this championship, thus both the wrestlers had made the people of the area and country proud.

Pamma lifts Nagrota Kesari dangal title

JAMMU, Nov 09: Pahalwan Pamma of Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab lifted the Sixth Annual Nagrota Kesari Dangal title outplaying Gurvinder Singh of Garh Shanker, again from Punjab, in a tough bout that lasted for 27 minutes at Nagrota, near here.
Member Legislative Assembly, Jugal Kishore Sharma was chief guest, who along with president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma presented a cash prize of Rs 13,000 to pahalwan Pamma while runners-up, Gurvinder got Rs 8,000 as prize money. The day-long dangal was organised by Nagrota Dangal Committee under the aegis of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
In all, 58 bouts were played in this dangal. The second main bout between pahalwan Benia of J&K Police and Sombir of Rohtak in Haryana remained undecided resulting into organizers gave away Rs 6,000 to both the wrestlers. In the third main bout, Bhurra of Pathankot defeated pahalwan Kundu Patel of Guru Hanuman Akhara Delhi. Pahalwan Pintu of Pathankot clinched the fourth bout trouncing Rishi Paul of Jullandhar in Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, Shiv Kumar Sharma complimented Nagrota Dangal Committee for making the event a regular feature for the last six years.
Technical officials, who helped in the smooth conduct of dangal included Om Parkash Sharma, Mohd Fareed, Madan Lal and Ashu. Association members, who contributed for the success of dangal included Madan Lal, Varinder Sharma, Kulwant Singh, Zorawar Singh, Neeraj Kumar, Koshal Kumar, Heem Raj, Vijay Kumar, Ved Paul and Ashu.
Other Results: Satish Kumar of Jallandhar bt Akram of Jammu; Naresh of Rohtak bt Bobari of Shiv Mandir Akhara Jammu; Mukha of BSF of Dinanagar bt Jagga; Onkar Singh of BSF of Kathua bt Gosha; Kaka of Pahtankot bt Anil Kumar (Mohanu) of Jammu; Kuldeep Singh of Ladda bt Vijay Kumar of Ramnagar; Murad Ali of Jammu bt Akram of Jammu. Bouts between Kulbir Singh of Kot Bhalwal (Jammu) and Sandeep of Rohtak and Sonu of Delhi and Attar Din of Shiv Mandir Akhara Jammu ended in draw.

The club, Akhara Guru Gaya Seth, has around 150 members. Most of these train twice a day; early morning and late afternoon. A good part of the physical training consists of push-ups and rope climbing, and while dumbbells are used it is mainly their bodies they use as ballast. The actual wrestling is performed within a square approximately 4x4 meters in size.

Bank backs India’s grapple with Pakistan

Bank Alfalah will be the main sponsor of the Challenge Cup Dangal, a wrestling competition between Pakistan and India to be held in December.
The sponsorship will see the bank pay a prize of slightly over US$20,000 to the winner of the competition, which its organisers say will boost relations between the two countries.
"This event will help in reviving traditional style of wrestling in which grapplers from both Pakistan and India dominated and this art of wrestling was patronised by elite of the society for a long time," said Pervaiz A Shahid, the bank's chairman.
"Bank Alfalah is extending financial assistance to a number of sports, apart from supporting cricket with an aim to pay special attention to those sports which are a part of our heritage and culture."

Indeed, the turnout was as big as it could get, despite the fact that the players, who do not have the privilege to be having household names, battled it out on the wrestling mat at Gol Bagh Wrestling Stadium, here today.

The occasion was the second leg of International Wrestling Competition between the wrestlers from India, Pakistan and Iran. Over 15,000 wrestling aficionados cheered, clapped, whistled and broke into jigs as wrestlers locked bodies to flatten their rivals.
Jalandhar wrestlers dominated the scene from very beginning and won the first two bouts. In the opening competition under 66 kg category, Joginder outclassed Pakistani wrestler Mohammad Sulman and in next bout, another Jalandhar based wrestler Om Prakash toppled his Pakistani opponent Mohammad Ashad in a keenly fought bout under 70 kg category.
It was only Mohammad Ali from Pakistan who opened the account after defeating the Indian wrestler Lovepreet Singh. In the next bout under 55 kg category, it was the Iranian wrestler Ahmadaloo Mohammad who beat Harish of Amritsar.
The fifth bout was grabbed again by the Pakistan’s Uman Tarik in 74 kg category. He defeated his Indian opponent Sunny Bhopal. Mohammad Inam of Pakistan beat Rakesh of Haryana in 84 kg category, Vikram defeated Fahan Babar of Pakistan in 96 kg category, Zunair Bin Zahir of Pakistan beat Gurpal Singh of Jalandhar in 120 kg category.
Lalli of Jalandhar defeated Pakistan’s Zahid Shahzad, Jagroop Singh of Amritsar beat Maleki Feiz Mostafa of Iran under same category. This competition is being organised by Punjab Wrestling Association on the occasion of birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The first leg of the meet was held at Dera Baba Nanak yesterday and the third leg has been scheduled at Tarn Taran tomorrow. As many as 10 wrestlers from Pakistan and 8 from Iran turned up to participate in the meet.
GS Dhillon, the organiser, told that the main aim of organising this meet was to grab the attention of people especially the youth towards this sport. “This is a rural sport and has long roots in our tradition. We have also initiated to bring two countries-India and Pakistan- together, while burying the border battles, through this meet”, he said.

Pak-India dangal next month

LAHORE,Nov 7 (APP)- Pakistan and Indian top grapplers will be seen in action in a “Challenge Cup Dangal “ being held here in December.
This was stated by Chairman,CMC,Bank Alfalah,Pervaiz A Shahid at a news conference on Saturday at Lahore Press Club in the presence of Lahore district Nazim,Mian Aamir Mahmood.  Also preset was national champion,Muhammad Bashir Bhola Bhala.
Pervaiz said the dangal would comprise three stages with the first leg taking place on December 13 at Lahore followed by second competition on December 18 at Bahawalpur and third on December 20 at Karachi.
“ This event will help in reviving traditional style of wrestling in which grapplers from both Pakistan and India dominated and this art of wrestling was patronised by elite of the society for a long time “,he said.
Answering a question,he said,dangal would help in breaking ice between the two countries and restoring sporting ties and creating better understanding between people on both sides.
“ Bank Alfalah is extending financial assistance to a number of sports,apart from supporting cricket with an aim to pay special attention to those sports which are a part of our heritage and culture “,he said adding “ We will continue supporting dangals in future as well “.
He announced a cash prize of Rs one million for the winner of the event.      
Mian Aamir Mahmood said the dangal would be participated by top wrestlers of sub-continent and high quality wrestling would be produced from this event.
“ There will be a number of bouts in the event besides the title bout for which Bashir Bhola Bhala has challenged the top wrestlers of the India”,he said.
Bhola Bhala said he is ready to fight with any Indian wrestler that is why he has challenged all of them.
“ I fought against a number of Indian wrestlers in the past and I have a good record against them and I am sure that I will win against them when they visit Pakistan.”

Local cops emerge champs at state wrestling tourney

Nerul: Two cops from Navi Mumbai police force knocked down their closest rivals in wrestling bastion Kolhapur to win titles in their respective groups at the just concluded state level wrestling competition. The second edition of the state level contest was organized by Nerul-basedsports outfit Samrat Sports Academy at Ramleela grounds, near Sarsole bus depot, Nerul.

Navi Mumbai wrestler duo Atul Jagtap and Shashikant Lokhande from city police had put forth a stellar performance against their tough contenders to bag crowns in different groups. The surging local wrestling buffs that turned up to root for the grapplers were treated with some fine techniques, throws, locks and knock downs.
On their win, the victorious duo was encouraged by their boss Gulabrao Pol, city police commissioner, who made his presence felt at the closing ceremony of the show. Both local champions received pats on their back for doing the city policemen proud  and emerged as group champions.
Many Shivchhatrapati and Arjuna awardees in varied sports disciplines were present to motivate the grapplers at state level wrestling competition. The tourney  had over a hundred amateur and professional grapplers from across the state vying for elite spots.



Those present on the occasion were sports administrators Bal Wadawalikar (wrestling) and Jaya Shetty (kabaddi) besides Navi Mumbai police commissioner Gulabrao Pol among others.
The wrestlers from Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Mumbai, Solapur and Thane regaled the crowd with their muscle strength and grappling tricks on the makeshift clay-filled fighting arena. The winners in different categories included Rajendra Rajmane (Atpadi), Badam Magdum (Kolhapur), Sunil Mohite (Kolhapur), Amol Kashid (Mumbai), Rajendra Sutar (Atpadi), Sanjay Jadhav (Sondli), Atul Jagtap and Shashikant Lokhande (Navi Mumbai Police), Manoj Achre (Sondli), Pratap Patil (Kotoli).
For the championship bout, Kolhapur wrestler Kantilal Jadhav and Atpadi grappler Ravindra Gaikwad were supposed to lock horns. But Kolhapur wrestler Kantilal  called it a day for the coveted title due to severe injury he sustained during an earlier bout. As a result, Ravindra was declared as the champion  on merit as he performed well in all the rounds he fought.

Wrestling Association unhappy with inadequate infrastructure

JAMMU, Oct 27: The Indian Style Wrestling Association expressed concern over the plight of wrestling in the state.
Addressing the media, Prem Chowdhary, chairman of the Indian Style Wrestling Association said that the State Government has failed to provide the necessary infrastructure for the promotion of the game.
He further said that despite medal winning performance by the wrestlers from Jammu, the State Government was not serious in the upliftment of the popular game of Jammu Province.
Prem Chowdhary appealed to the Sports Minister to provide the adequate infrastructure including the Mats and appointment of qualified coaches for different districts of Jammu Province besides regular conduct of wrestling competitions.
Others who were present on the occasion included Anand Lehar, Ved Parkash Vohra, Dogra Harish Kaila, Bodh Raj, Allamahi and Raju pahalwan.

Wrestling competition held

JAMMU, Oct 31: The J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association in association with State Sports Council conducted a wrestling competition at Kalidhe School, Sunderbani today.
MLC Ravinder Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed prizes among the winners.
Rakesh Khajuria, general secretary of the association and Rashpal Sharma was also present.

Results:
29-32kg: Munish Kumar (1st), Akshay Kumar (2nd) and Ravinder Sharma (3rd).
35-37kg: Sunil Kumar (1st), Sanjeet Raina (2nd) and Vipan Kumar (3rd).
38-41kg: Sohail Kumar (1st), Amit Kumar (2nd) and Dheeraj (3rd).
42-46kg: Amit (1st), Balbir Singh (2nd) and Sajjid Mirza (3rd).
53-58kg: Manoj Kumar (1st), Vishal (2nd) and Arjun Singh (3rd).
59-62kg: Om Parkash (1st), Ajay Kumar (2nd) and Mohinder Singh (3rd).
