Benia lifts 52th Amarnath Maha dangal title

JAMMU, Apr 29: Benia Min of J&K Police defeated wrestler Gurmail of BSF of Chandigarh and lifted “52 Annual Amar Nath Memorial Maha Dangal Title 2014” at Subash Stadium Udhampur last evening.

The Dangal was organized Amar Nath Maha Dangal Samiti in collaboration with Mukti Youth Club(Regd.) Udhampur and J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.

The Dangal under the overall supervision of President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma and Gita Devi daughter of Late Amar Nath Pujari.

Additional SP Udhampur, Khalil Poswal was the chief guest on the occasion who gave away cash prizes to the winners & runner-up Wrestlers. SHO Udhampur, Mahesh Sharma, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Udhampur, Sukhdev Singh were the guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Poswal lauded the efforts of Chairman, Amarnath Dangal Committee, Udhampur in organizing the Dangal at Udhampur every year which is aimed at boosting the morale of wrestlers besides providing a source of entertainment to common people. He said events also keep the wrestlers physically fit and mentally sound adding that healthy persons could also contribute in shaping the future of the society in a better way.

Treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India Shiv Kumar Sharma presided over the function.

Chairman of Dangal Samiti, Gita Devi Supervised the whole event personally along with other members of the committee in which 37 bouts were played in one day long dangal.

The first main bout winner Benia Min cash awarded Rs. 5,000 along with traditional Silver Gurj (Gadda) and patta by Additional SP Udhampur Khalil Poswal and Shiv Kumar Sharma while runner-up Wrestler Gurmail got Rs. 4,000 by Gita Devi and President Mukti Youth Club Udhampur.

The Second main bout was won by Nissar of Doda who defeated Brajesh of Chandigarh. Third bout was won by Ajay Sharma of Landen Power House Udhampur who defeated Johny of Rajasthan.

Shiv Kumar Sharma compliment Gita Devi for organizing annual Dangal (Wrestling Competition) a regular feature for last 52 years. He further said holding of such events in the State send a message of Love, peace, unity and brotherhood to the entire country and the youth who are taking wrong paths now a days get inspiration to do something positive.

Chairman of Dangal Committee Gita Devi thanked Addl. S.P Udhampur, people who witness the Dangal, Committee members, Wrestlers, Police Udhampur, Youth Services and Sports Department, District Administration for making this Dangal a grand success.

Deputy Chief Warden Advocate Swatantra Dev Kotwal, Civil Defence Udhampur conducted the proceeding of the Dangal.
