Dakshin Puri Dangal in Memory of Budhi Pradan
On Nov. 27, wrestlers from many great akharas descended on Virat Cinema Ground for the Dakshin Puri Dangal. The dangal was organized in the memory of Budhi Pradhan, a social activist and head of Akhil Bhartiya Valmik Society.
Lots of prizes were awarded to the winning wrestlers and there were even consolation prizes for the defeated athletes. The organizing committee started from the prizes of 500/- and bouts were held like the prizes of 1100/-, 5100/-, 11000/-, 4100/- 15000/-, 21000/- and the fight for the first prize was for 31000/-
Raj Singh Atall wrestled Rehan of Punjab in a very long match that was eventually declared a draw. Rajesh Bhati of Guru Hanuman Akhara took on a younger wrestler who managed to escape Bhati’s attempts to pin him. But at the end of the bout he was breathless and almost fainted. Nardev Pahalwan of Samandar Akhara defeated his opponent after a long battle. A wrestler named Subhash defended beautifully against his opponent’s attack, countered the move and pinned the other wrestler.
A wrestler from Haryana named Sonu challenged Kala Nag aka the King Cobra. Kala Nag is a great wrestler and is largely undefeated. Sonu tried his best to capture the snake, but King Cobra slipped out of his grasp. Kala Nag tried to take Sonu down three times with a kalajung, or fireman’s carry. The fourth time it was a great success. Kala Nag finished him quickly to claim victory.
The first prize bout was between Birju Pahalwan and Kishan Pahalwan. Birju is a great wrestler who has won the Hind Kesari title and Kishan Pahalwan is Delhi Kesari. The two battled for a long time, but as the sun went down the match was declared a draw.
The renowned wrestler Vikram Pehlwan was also in attendance. Vikram has defeated a great wrestler recently and had a long match with a great Olympian wrestler that was eventually declared a draw. He was honored with Pagari and some cash at the dangal. He’s really a star in the world of Indian wrestling. People flocked around him to have their picture taken with him.
MLA Ramesh Bidhuri, Astt. Commissioner of Delhi Police Mahipal ji, were the chief guests at the dangal. Rajinder Pahalwan and Bishambhar Khalifa of Guru Shyam Lal Akhada Aya Nagar were referees.
Organizing committee: Vikas Sood (a social activist and mantra of madangiri block of BJP and also upadhyaksa of Mahasshi Valmik society), Azad Pahalwan of Dakshin Puri Akhara, Kapil Dev, Padam Pahalwan, Ramsingh, Manish Verma , Sadanand Pahlwan, Shankar Chugh, Jaiveer Rana, Gurcharan Ghei. Ambedkar Nagar police station the local community made it a memorable event. The MC was Somdev Chugh, and Sunil Negi recorded the bouts and was the cashier at the event.
