CHANDIGARH, AUG 10
The Gulzar Wrestling Akhara, Zirakhpur, today felicitated its trainee Mahipat who had won gold in 54 kg class in the Asian Cadet Wrestling Championship held in Bangkok from July 30 to August 1.
Amidst loud cheers Sports Authority of India coach RS Kundu trained Mahipat was presented a cash award of Rs 51,000 by former Wrestling Federation of India president K S Minhas who is now life vice-president of the WFI.
Among those present on the occasion were Gulzar Akhara president RK Pahal, vice-presidents Inspector Hardev Singh and Rajinder Kumar and general secretary Ranbir Singh and SAI coach RS Kundu.
A large number of women also turned up for the function.
It may be recalled that India had claimed five gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals in Bangkok.
