LAHORE: Shahid Pehalwan Kohywala defeated Usman Pehalwan to win the Bank Alfalah Sher-e-Punjab Dangal at the Punjab Stadium here on Sunday evening. The title bout lasted for 30 minutes and the winner was decided on points. Punjab Assembly deputy speaker Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan was the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up. Also present on the occasion was Bank Alfalah marketing head Hamid M Mirza. The second important bout was between Acchi Pehalwan and Tari Pehalwan with the earlier emerging as victorious. Acchi Pehalwan downed Tari Pehalwan in less than a minute. In all 20 bouts were contested during the one-day event. In other competitions, Kulli Pehalwan beat Mitho Pehalwan, Kashif Pehalwan beat Hamza Pehalwan, Nomi Pehalwan beat Zeeshan Pehalwan, Ameer Ali Pehalwan beat Mushtaq Pehalwan, Goonga Pehalwan beat Mama Pehalwan, Hero Pehalwan beat Farid Pehalwan, Murtaza Pehalwan beat Adnan Pehalwan, Mustafa Pehalwan beat Mohsin Pehalwan, Aamir Hafeez Pehalwan beat Sohail Pehalwan, Inam Pehalwan beat Umair Pehalwan, Sarwar Sain Pehalwan beat Akki Pehalwan and Goga Pehalwan beat Maloo Pehalwan.
Cash prizes of more than Rs 300, 000 were distributed among the wrestlers. Rana Mashood said the event was being organised to promote sports activities in the province. “Such activities will play an important role in reviving traditional style of wrestling,” he added. Hamid Mirza of Bank Alfalah said his organisation was sponsoring sports activities to motivate youth to get involve in sports for the creation of healthy society. “We are not restricted to one game or any particular event, our doors are open to every sport as we have already sponsored major and minor sports of the country and sponsoring dangal is a part of our plan to pay attention to traditional sports which highlight our culture and traditions,” he added.
