Army organizes wrestling competition

Jammu: 08 Nov 2012: In an effort to promote the sport of wresting amongst the populace residing in the far flung areas of Jammu region, the Rashtriya Rifles Battalion at Sarh in collaboration with Dangal Committee of Mahore organised wrestling competition at Tehsil Mahore on Wednesday.

Approx 70 wrestlers from different districts of the state participated in the competition, in which 20-30 wrestlers were from Punjab and Haryana.
The competition was witnessed by approx two thousand spectators with great enthusiasm. Mr Thakur Sher Singh, KAS, SDM Mahore, Mr Arun Kotwal, SHO Mahore, Mr Om Prakash Palwan, BDO Mahore and the Commanding Officer of Rashtriya Rifles Battalion at Sarh were the Chief guests.

In the main bout, wrestler Abdul Ghani of Maler Kotla defeated wrestler Zahid of Jammu and was awarded first prize of Rs 20,000/-. The bout between Safi Ali of Patiala and Ajja of Kainthi, Mahore got tied up. The spectators praised both the wrestler for their strength and tricks, which made the bout extremely interesting.

The Rashtriya Rifles Battalion supported the Dangal Committee by presenting prizes and cash awards. The commanding officer of the Rashtriya Rifles at Sarh, expressed that sports play an important role in shaping the personality of the youth and also serve as a health elixir for youth and nurture them both mentally and physically.

The Villages have vast potential in every sport and there is a need to channelize the local sports talent, by providing them proper sports infrastructure and training support at various sports facilities. The members of Dangal Committee Mahore thanked the Army for smooth and successful conduct of the event. The Dangal Committee also announced that the next round of matches would be organized at Dharmari on 15th November.
