पलवल में दंगल ,
पलवल के बरोली गाँव में मुझे दंगल देखने का निमंत्रण मिला ! दो फ्रेंच साथी , जिनसे मेरी कुश्ती की वेबसाइट पर मुलाकात हुई थी , उनकी भी दंगल देखने की इच्छा थी ! दोनों अच्छे फोटो ग्राफर थे, रास्ते भर में फोटो खींचते रहे ! समय पर दंगल के अखाड़े में पहुंचे ! दंगल समीति के सदस्यों से मुलाक़ात कर उन्हें अपना परिचय दिया , उन्होंने बहुत ख़ुशी जाहिर की और हमारा स्वागत किया ! मैंने उनका तहे दिल से धन्यवाद किया , फ़्रांसिसी पत्रकार गाँव देखकर खुश थे, लोग उन्हें घेर कर फोटो खिचवाते तो उन्हें बड़ा मजा आया ! उन्होंने बताया की हमारे फ़्रांस में लोगों के चेहरों पर इतनी रौनक नहीं होती , मैंने उन्हें बताया की हम भारतीय अपनी जिंदगी को ख़ुशी से जीना जानते हैं और हर बात में ख़ुशी ढूंढ लेते हैं ! इसी बीच दंगल में बच्चों की कुश्ती शुरू हो गई, बच्चों ने बहुत अच्छे से कुश्ती कला का पर्दर्शन किया और लगभग सभी कुश्तियां चित पट हुई, ! जूनियर कुश्तियां जोरदार थी, उनकी कला का परदर्शन देखकर फ़्रांसिसी भी खुश थे, उनका माना था की यदि इन पहलवानों को ठीक मार्गदर्शन और सुविधाएं मिलें तो ओलंपिक में मेडल के लिए भारत को न तरसना पड़े ! समंदर पहलवान के एक पट्ठे ने झोली पर अपने प्रतिद्वंदी को चित्त कर खूब वाह वाही बटोरी, बड़ी कुश्तियों में गुरु जसराम के शिष्य जगबीर और गुरु समंदर के शिष्य संदीप के बीच जोरदार मुकाबला हुआ जो लगभग १५ मिनट चला , कुश्ती बराबर रही उन्हें सेला और नकद इनाम दिया गया ! दंगल की पहली कुश्ती गुरु जसराम के शिष्य विक्रम और गुरु बद्री के शिष्य बिरजू के बीच लड़ी गई , काफी समय बीतने पर जब कुश्ती का फैसला न हुआ तो दर्शकों के कहने पर कुश्ती को आर पार की लड़ाई मे तब्दील कर दिया गया , कई बार बिरजू ने पट खींचने की कोशिश की पर पसीने और मिटटी में तर बतर किसीका भी कोई दांव न चला , इसी तरह विक्रम ने भी कई बार जांघिया पकड़ दांव चलाये लेकिन पसीने में भीगे पहलवानों की पकड़ फिसलती रही ! दोनों भयकर तरीके से भिड़े इसी बीच बारिश होने लगी और कुश्ती को रोककर बराबर घोषित किया गया ! दंगल कमेटी ने सभी बड़े बूढों, गुरु , खलीफाओं , फ़्रांसिसी पत्रकारों और मेरा पगड़ी दे सम्मान किया ! सबको धन्यवाद दे और विदा लेकर वापस दिल्ली की और चल दिया

It was a nice day, cool winds, and rainy weather around Delhi. With two French visitors who wanted to see some Indian traditional wrestling I traveled to Gharoli Village on the outskirts of Palwal, a district of Haryana.
When we reached the wrestling area, the dangal committee head welcomed us, and offered to help us in any way he could. I thanked him and we chatted with the wrestlers as the pit was being prepared for the competition.
It was a small dangal in a beautiful village. The young wrestlers started things off with a brilliant performance. After them the junior and sub junior wrestlers wrestled their matches which mostly ended with pins.
Then came the matches of the senior wrestlers. A wrestler from Samandar Akhara put on a brilliant show of strength, using the "jholi" technique to pin his opponent. He got a cash prize of 5000/-. In another senior match, Jagbeer of Guru Jasram Akhada was challenged by Sandeep of Guru Samandar Akhada. Both the wrestlers were equally matched and the referees let the bout go over the time limit because the crowd was so worked up, but in the end the match was called a draw.
The dangal committee gave them both traditional pagri head gear for putting on a good show and a quarter of the match prize money.
Then the rain started pouring so a few more matches were cancelled and the first prize match was announced. Vikram Pahlwan was up against Birju of Guru Badri Akhada. The match was scheduled for 20 minutes and both the wrestlers fought well. Vikram dominated Birju for most of the match. Both men were soaked in perspiration and mud so it was nearly impossible for either to secure a good hold. Vikram grabbed onto Birju’s janghia and toppled him over but Birju managed to avoid the pin. The Birju tried a leg attack, but Vikram defended beautifully. It started raining harder so the referees and the village committee decided to call the match a draw.
