LAHORE – Tahir Tari Pahlwan of Lahore clinched the 6th Khadim-e-Aala Dangal title with flying colours here at the Wrestling Stadium on late Wednesday night.
Tari took 18 minutes to down his rival from Multan, Mohammad Ali Pukka Multania in front of packed to capacity stadium.
Apart from the title bout, another 11 contests were held and out of those nine were result-oriented and two ended in tie.
Chamkila Pahlwan beat Tanveer, Chota Ashgar beat Jhara, Fareed beat Hafiz, Sohail beat Abid Dogar, Tauseef of Faisalabad beat Azhar Pathan while Papu and Anam played a drawn match and similarly Qasim of Gujranwalia and Atta of Haroonabad were winless. Chief of Raba group of China was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners while members of the Chinese delegation were also present on the occasion.
Later, talking to the journalists, Tari Pahlwean (Tahir) urged the government to announce cash awards for the winning wrestlers for the promotion of national style wrestling.
He said that the winner pahlwan should be given Rs one million as cash award. He also expressed his delight on beating a tough opponent.
However, the runner-up of the title bout Mohammad Ali also asked the government to support the wrestlers financially so that they could concentrate on the game instead of worrying for the basic needs. He also promised to work hard to regain the title in the next competition. `
