गुरदीप ब्राह्मणवाल दिल्ली में रहते हैं और टूर व् ट्रैवेलिंग इंडस्ट्री में व्यवसाई हैं, वे मूलतः पंजाब के ब्राह्मणवाल गाँव से हैं. और शहर में रह कर भी अपनी मिटटी, अपने गाँव से जुड़े हैं! या ये कहना कि उनका रिहाइश और व्यवसाय दिल्ली में और मन अपने गाँव में बसता हैं सर्वथा उचित होगा! उन्होंने मुझे बताया कि वो अपने गाँव में कुश्ती छिंज - दंगल का आयोजन कर रहे हैं और उन्होंने मुझे उस दंगल में आने का निमंत्रण दिया , वहाँ पहुँच कर मेरा स्वागत सत्कार भी किया , जिसके लिए मै गुरदीप भाई के प्रति कृतज्ञ हूँ. उन्होंने दंगल कि एक शानदार व्यवस्था की जिसमे एक बड़ा अखाडा, दर्शकों के बैठने के लिए शानदार व्यवस्था, अच्छा साउंड सिस्टम, पूरे दिन भर का प्रसाद भंडारा, बेहतरीन एनाउंसर और सभी गुरु , खलीफाओं, अतिथियों का मान सम्मान,
उन्होंने कुश्ती कला के माहिर ,सिख - सरदार पहलवान भाइयों का मनोबल बढ़ाने के लिए उन्हें विशेष रूप से सम्मानित किया। दंगल में दूर दर्ज से आये पहलवानो कुश्तिया लड़ी , पंजाब के अलावा , उत्तर परदेश , जम्मू कश्मीर , दिल्ली , हरयाणा व् हिमाचल से आये पहलवानो ने दंगल में भाग लिया। जिनमे बड़े पहलवान बेनिया , जस्सा पट्टी,गौरव् मशिवारा, गनी , हनुमंता , जसवीर, तस्लीम , हैप्पी, पहलवान इत्यादि रहे


ENGLISH VERSION

Gurdeep Singh Brahmanwala is a veteran wrestler and lifelong wrestling fan. His Village Brahmanwala is in the beautiful district of Ropar in Punjab. It is a green and peaceful place near the border with Himachal Pradesh. And it was the setting for a great wrestling competition recently to promote the sport and the culture of kushti.

Gurdeep invited wrestlers all over from Punjab, Delhi, Haryana and adjoining states. He also invited me to cover the competition and I am thankful to him. Gurdeep called all the Sikh Sardar Wrestlers to the wrestling arena and honored them with headgear and some cash. The wrestlers all appreciated Gurdeep’s gesture and such recognition also encourages young Sikh Sardars to take up wrestling.

In the first prize match Gaurav of Machiwara was paired with Benia of Jammu & Kashmir. Gaurav pinned Benia and won the match. In the second prize match Gani pinned his opponent swiftly.

All the people wanted to watch Sikh Sardar Wrestler Jassa Patti in action. He was injured recently so he only came and accepted people’s good wishes. Gurdeep Ji honored him with a headgear saropa and some cash.

I took a good wrestler Tasleem with me who wrestled very well and won his match by pinning his opponent. In yet another match Hanumanta of Delhi was paired with a good skilled local wrestler. The bout went on for a long time and was finally declared a draw.
