Abdul Gani of Punjab lifts Battal Ballian Dangal

JAMMU: Punjab Wrestler, Abdul Gani of Mallerkotla lifted the Fifth Annual Battal Ballian Kesari Dangal title outplaying Navneet of Patiala in the main bout that lasted for 23 minutes at Battal in district Udhampur.
Dangal was organised by Pir Baba Dangal Committee Battal Ballian in association with J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
Title winner, Gani was awarded with cash prize of Rs 36,000 along with Patta while runner-up, Navneet received Rs 25,000 prize money from Chief Guest, National Conference leader, Taranjeet Singh Tony, who was accompanied by Sarpanch, Makhan Lal and President of the J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma as also Deep Singh.
An expenditure of Rs 2 lakh was incurred on this day-long Dangal, wherein 52 bouts were played. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur, Benam Tosh and State BJP Vice-President, Pawan Gupta were Guests of Honour.
The second main bout was won by Wrestler Benia of J and K Police, who beat Sarpanch of Khanna in Punjab. While Benia presented a cash prize of Rs 31,000, Rs 20,000 were given to runners-up Wrestler, Sarpanch.
In third main bout, Sagar of Delhi emerged winner beating Sukha of Rajasthan while Karan of Patila defeated Kulbir Singh of Kot Bhalwal in the fourth bout. Mohammad Jakker of Sarore won the fifth bout beating Yodha of Attari. Member and Technical Officials, who helped in the smooth conduct of the Dangal included Deep Singh (Pinka), Sukhdev Singh, Dhiyan Singh, Master Munna Khan, Munshi Ram Sharma, Puran Chand Sharma, Sham Singh, Gulshad Master, Yog Raj Singh, Sikander Singh, Jatinder Singh Babu, Vijay Singh, (Biju), Om Parkash Verma, Kapoor Singh, Kulvinder Singh, Deepak Wazir, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri) and Murli Dhar. Other Results: Tinku of Delhi beat Kaka of Namashar; Amir Khan of Nargada defeated Talab of Mallerkotla; Lallu of Jammu outplayed Bhabber of UP; Bittu of Delhi trounced Akram of Jammu; Anyat of Manwal downed Anand of Haryabna; Charta of Attari blanked Gulshan Singh of J and K Police; Devinder of Domana beat Parveen of Delhi; Sonu of Hartyana defeated Akram of Choudi; Amjad of Bishnah trounced Angrej of Dom Charri. Bout between Gopal Sharma of Jindrah and Javed Khan of Jammu ended in a draw.

सूर्या व प्रीति ने जीती पटके की कुश्ती

राज नगर वेलफेयर सोसायटी की ओर से रविवार को शहीद-ए-आजम भगत सिंह को समर्पित पहला पंजाबी रूस्तमे मुकाबला मधुबन कालोनी बस्ती बावा खेल में कराया गया। इसके अंतर्गत लड़के व लड़कियों की कुश्ती कराई गई।

कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ मुख्य अतिथि जिम्मी कालिया, जतिंगर सिंह बब्बू नीलकंठ व बदरी पहलवान ने किया। इस दौरान पंजाब के विभिन्न जिलों से आए पहलवानों के मुकाबले भी कराए गए। अंत में पटके की कुश्ति अमृतसर के सूर्या व सलीमपुर के कमल तथा लड़कियों में गुरदासपुर की प्रीति मांगा व नवनीत के बीच करवाई गई। लड़कों में पटके की कुश्ती सूर्या व लड़कियों में प्रीति ने जीती। विजेता खिलाड़ियों को प्रधान नरिंदर सिंह, कुलविंदर कुंदी व संजीव दुआ ने आठ हजार रुपये का नकद इनाम दिया। इस दौरान बीबी सतवंत कौर, जीएस मंगा, रविंदर सैहरा, जुगिंदर सिंह जुनेजा, बबलू सेतिया, लखविंदर सिंह बाजवा, गुरबख्श सिंह, विक्की, गुड्डू खान, सतीश नागपाल, बलजीत सिंह वालिया, पवन शर्मा, सोनू पहलवान, दलबीर सिंह, बब्बू भाटिया, निर्मल टिंकू, जुगिंदर सिंह, मनोज भाटिया, विशाल, हनी अरोड़ा, हरीश दुआ व अन्य मौजूद थे।

पटके की कुश्ती में योद्धा अटारी ने सुखचैन मेवावाला को हराया

बाबा मंड पीर का सालाना मेला धूमधाम से मनाया गया। चादर चढ़ाने की रस्म मुख्य सेवादार बाबा रामू शाह ने गांव वालों के सहयोग से निभाई। इसके बाद प्रसिद्ध कव्वाल बख्शी कवाल जालंधर, बिला कवाल जालंधर, मोहम्मद अशरफ और स्वर्ण चंद लहरी ने सूफियाना फन दिखा लोगों को मंत्रमुग्ध किया। प्रसिद्ध गायक आरएल सब्बरवाल ने भी रंगारंग प्रोगाम पेश किया।

शाम को मेले में पंजाब के 110 के करीब पहलवानों ने जौहर दिखाए। इस समय पटके की कुश्ती के दौरान पहलवान योद्धा अटारी ने सुखचैन सिंह मेवावाला को हराकर जीत हासिल की। इसके अलावा सुखा कांजली, नवजोत मेवा सिंह वाला, गुरदेव बब्बा, महता कुराला, जिंदर मुरीदवाल, कुलजीत फिरोजपुर, गोनी दौलतपुरिया आदि की कुश्ती देखने लायक थी। इस मौके छिंज कमेटी में माली सहायता देने वालों को सम्मानित किया गया। सूरता सिंह सरपंच पाजिया, मोहन सिंह पूर्व सरपंच दुर्गापुर, सलविंदर सिंह पूर्व सरपंच, डीएसपी प्यारा सिंह पाजिया, एसडीओ पावरकाम खैड़ा दोना गुरनाम सिंह बाजवा, रणजीत सिंह राणा डडविंडी ब्लाक समिति मेंबर, मास्टर बलदेव सिंह टीटा, जगीर सिंह, बलबीर सिंह, कृपा सिंह पाजीया, प्यारा सिंह पाजीया, परमजीत सिंह दुर्गापुर, गुरमेल सिंह के अलावा बड़ी संख्या में लोग उपस्थित थे। कुश्ती होने से पहले कबड्डी मैच में डडविंडी ने परमजीतपुर को हराकर पहला स्थान प्राप्त किया।

Village Barah Dangal

आजकल उत्तर भारत गर्मी की चपेट में है, लू के थपेड़े लोगों को अधिकतर घर में ही रहने को मजबूर किये हुए हैं और अमूमन जरूरी काम होने पर ही लोग घर से बाहर निकलते है। ऐसे में आगरा से लगभग 70-80 किलोमीटर दूर बराह गाँव से दंगल का निमंत्र्ण आया और मैं जाने की तैयारियों में जुट गया , आगरा की और जाते हुए महसूस हुआ की मुगल राजाओं ने आगरा छोड़ कर राजधानी दिल्ली क्यों बनाई। , वैसे अब तो दिल्ली में भी कोई फर्क नहीं, पानी - बिजली की असुविधाओं के चलते मेरा तो दिल्ली भी छोड़ने का ही मन हैं। , देवन्दर छोटू , और पटे , गुरु मुन्नी -बराह अखाडा चलाते हैं, अपने क्षेत्र में कुश्ती और खेलों को बढ़ावा देने के लिए उन्होंने दंगल का आयोजन किया। एक गहरे खेत में , ट्रेक्टर की मदद से अखाडा तैयार किया गया , मंच और साउंड की व्यस्था की गई , सुरक्षा के लिए बन्दूक और राइफल लिए गाँव के लोग भी दीखे। क्षेत्र के और आस पास के गणमान्य व्यक्तियों को निमंत्र्ण दिया गया , आसपास के राज्यों जैसे दिल्ली, मध्य परदेश, हरयाणा , राजस्थान से पहलवान दंगल में शाररक हुए। दंगल की खासियत रही , महिलाओं की कुश्ती। अक्सर गाँव- कस्बों के लोगों पर महिलाओं के लिए रुढ़िवादी सोच रखने का दावा किया जाता है , पर महिलाओं की कुश्ती देखने के लिए बराह और आसपास के गाँव के लोगों का उत्साह देखते ही बनता था . महिला पहलवान दिव्या सैन ने तो एक बाल पहलवान से भी कुश्ती लड़ी , और दिव्या सैन के जीतने पर उन्ही लोगों ने दिव्या की झोली रुपयों से भर दी , दिल्ली की शान इस लड़की की कुश्ती उन्होंने अपने गाँव में देखी तो पूरा मनोरंजन हो गया। छुट्टी की पहली कुश्ती गुरु जसराम अखाड़े से विक्रम और हरकेश पहलवान के बीच हुई , दोनों चोटी के पहलवान है। दंगल में सभी गुरु खलीफाओं , व् गणमान्य व्यक्तिओं का स्वागत किया गया। दंगल के सफलता पूर्वक संचालित होने के बाद पटे पहलवान ने बताया की इस आयोजन से वाई संतुष्ट है और अगले साल दंगल को भारत केसरी दंगल की शक्ल में करायेंगे।

ENGLISH VERSION

Temperatures are soaring in Northern India these days. There is no respite from the heat. People stay indoors to try to keep cool. However, when I received an invitation from Village Barah which is 80-90 kms from the city of Agra, I could not stop myself from going there to cover the event.
On my journey I could understand why the mughal kings moved the capital to Agra from Delhi. The temperature here was bearable because of the river flowing nearby. We rested a while at a friend’s house and then headed to the dangal venue. Devender, Chotu and Pate are veteran wrestlers from guru munni akhada in Delhi. They are now running an akhada at their village baraah and to promote wrestling they organized this dangal.
With the help of a tractor the wrestling pit was prepared and sanctified with incense and flowers.
There were no police arrangements for security but the village people carried rifles to prevent any disorder.
The dignitaries were served cold drinks to keep them cool and drinking water was also supplied for the public, which was nice because a large crowd came to enjoy the event.
Wrestlers from nearby states like Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pardesh, Rajsthan came to compete.
Children from guru munni akhada participated in big numbers and won many matches. A young wrestler pinned guru munni’s pupil who won states competition in 25kg last year.
There were also some women’s matches. Female champion Divya Sain who made Delhi proud by winning a medal for in the junior nationals at chandigadh last month came to compete. But there were no girls in her weight class, so agreed to take on any boy who would challenge her. One wrestler came forward, possibly thinking it would be an easy win against a girl, but Divvya has defeated many men in the past. As the match began, the male wrestler scored a quick takedown, but Divvya defended herself. They returned to their feet and Divvya went on the attack. The boy went flying as Divvya tossed him onto his back, pinning him and winning the match. The village cheered her victory and gifted her with a lot of cash.
The first prize match was between Vikram of Guru Jasram Akhada and Harkesh Pahlwan of Mathura. Harkesh is a mighty wrestler and Vikram is a very experienced wrestler who fights big matches for first prize generally. Harkesh pinned vikram and won the prize.
All the gurus, khalifas, coaches and dignitaries were felicitated with pagri, including me. When I was announced the village people cheered. It was a great experience. It seemed like my work is paying off.
"I will make it a big event like bharat kesri next year," said Pate Pahlwan when we parted.
