Wrestler Abdul Gani of Mallerkotla in Punjab today clinched the 15th Malhar Kesari dangal title outplaying Amit of Chandigarh in the bout for first malli at Malhar in district Udhampur.
Dangal was organized by Malhar Dangal Committee in collaboration with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
Winner of the 1st malli, wrestler Gani was awarded with handsome cash prize of Rs 31,000 by chief guest, senior BJP leader, Pawan Kumar Gupta while runners-up, Amit received cash award of Rs 20,000 from president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma. Cash prizes were sponsored by Devinder Kumar and Sarpanch Subash Chander Sharma.
Also present were BJP Udhampur city president, Raj Kumar Bucha, district Udhampur Indian Style Wrestling president, Varinder Kumar Sharma and district Reasi Indian Style Wrestling Association, senior vice president, Naresh Kumar (Pappu).
In all, 52 bouts took place in this day-long dangal. In the second main bout, Benia of J&K Police defeated Gourav Raina of Himacal Pardesh. Benia was awarded a cash prize of Rs 31,000 while runner-up wrestler Gourav, got Rs 20,000. The third main bout won by Sagar of Delhi who defeated Rehmat Ali of mallerkotla. Fourth bout was won by Sahil of Mallerkotla beating Kala of Doom Charri.
Members and technical officials who helped for conduct of this event included Devinder Kumar, Sarpanch Subash Chander Sharma, Om Paul, ex Sarpanch Pawan Kumar, Beli Ram, Nariyan Dass, Gopal Dass, Nek Ram, Madan Lal, Capt (Retd.) Dhiyan Singh, Varinder Kumar, Om Parkash Verma, Mohd. Fareed, Vijay Singh (Biju), Tulinder Kumar, Pappu Lakri, Miru, Santokh Chand and Murli Dhar (Munna).

Aghar Jitto Dangal on June 24

JAMMU: The 50th Annual Aghar Jitto Kesari Vishal Dangal, organised by Shri Baba Jitto Mandir Development Committee Aghar Jittoo in collaboration with J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association, shall take place at Village Agar Jitto in district Reasi on 24th June. Dangal is part of the three-day Aghar Jitto Mela commencing from 22nd June.
This was decided in a meeting of the Dangal Organising Committee Dangal held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and attended besides others by President J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Sarpanch Krishan Singh (Pappu), Headmaster Gopal Krishan, Naib Tehsildar Katra Sher Singh and ASP M.S Chouhan.
Around 60 wrestlers from within and outside the State as also from belt forces shall be contesting for the top honours.

JAMMU: Omkar Singh of BSF defeated wrestler, Manni of Punjab to lift the annual wrestling (Dangal) competition that took place at Peer Baba Nagbani-Smailpur, block Marh on Saturday.
District Rural President of PDP, Suram Singh Chib was Chief Guest, who gave away prizes to winners and runners up in the day-long event. He stressed the need for involvement of youth in sports, especially wrestling for all round development.
Prominent among others present were President Sports Committee, Parshotam Singh, Vikram Singh Langeh, Buddhi Singh, Sagar Singh, Kamal Singh, Chamel Singh and Jagjeet Singh.

Punjab University Initiated Akhara In the PU Hostel

Punjab University is said to be the largest and oldest university in Pakistan which was established even a few decades before the establishment of Pakistan on the map of the world. Well, Punjab university is not only famous in the region for the educational and academic activities but it has also encouraged the students to engaged themselves in the sports as recently a step has been taken by the Punjab University in the same concern.
The Vice Chancellor of Punjab University Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran initiated a wrestling ground for the Desi wrestling known as Pahalwani in the premises of New Campus hostels ground. He has initiated Akhara (wrestling arena) in the ground of the hostel for the students who are interested to take the part in the Pahalwani. During the ceremony he also requested to the leaders of winning party of general election 2013 PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz), Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif to pay a special attention on this desi wrestling and save it from getting demolished from our culture.
Director Sports Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Chaudhry Liaqat, Haji Sirajuddin Muhammad Saeed, Pride of Pakistan Haji Muhammad Afzal, Lala Pahalwan, senior faculty members and wrestlers and many of the students were also present on the event.
