JAMMU, Oct 16: Wrestler Kamal of Jalandhar in Punjab lifted the 11th Annual Domana Kesari dangal, organized by managing committee of Baba Shah Akhara Domana in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association at Domana, here.
In the main bout, Kamal defeated wrestler Navneet of Akhara Subash Malik in Punjab to be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 18,000. Runners-up, Navneet presented Rs 13,000 as prize money.
President of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma was chief guest in this dangal, who presented cash prizes to the among the winners and runners-up wrestlers. Sarpanch Domana, Shamsher Singh presided over the function.
Treasurer of the Association, P R Sharma was guest of honour while Sarpanch Mumtaj Kahan, Dalbir Singh, Rehmat Ali and Babishan Singh were among other prominent present.
A record 105 bouts took place in this day-long vishal dangal involving an expenditure of Rs 4,45,000. The second main bout won by Kaka of RS Pura, who defeated Jakker of Sarore to win a cash prize of Rs 10,000 while runners-up, Jakker got Rs 7,000. In third bout, Satish of Jalandhar beat Jaswant of Maller Kotla.
Members and technical officials who helped in the successful conduct of this dangal were Sarpanch Domana, Shamsher Singh Naib, Sarpanch Raj Kumar, coach Mohd. Fareed, Satish Singh, Balraj Sharma, Pammi Chib, Bodh Raj Bhagat, Om Parkash Sharma, Mulkh Raj Sharma, PR Sharma, Ramesh Chander, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri) and Murli Dhar (Munna).

Satyavart lifts International Wrestling Title

KATRA: Wrestler Satyavart won the Ninth Roustam-E-International Indian Style Wrestling Title at jam packed Vivekanand Sports Stadium, Katra by defeating his Ukraine rival wrestler Mykhalio Datsemko in the final bout on Saturday.
The wrestling championship was organised as a part of Navratra Festival by the J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association with the active support of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), J and K Tourism Department, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Navratra Festival Committee, Katra Municipal Committee, District Administration and locals of Katra.
World Champion and Olympic Medalist, Wrestler Sushil Kumar was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Director Tourism, Jammu, Soujanya Sharma and International Wrestling Coach Yashvir Singh were the Guests of Honour.
In other main contest of Roustam-E-International Indian Style Wrestling, Wrestler Sagaliuk Liubomyr of England defeated Indian wrestler Yudhvir Singh in a tough bout.
Wrestler Satyavart was awarded Silver Gurj, Patta and cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and the runner up got cash of Rs.50,000 awarded by the Chief Guest. Similarly third and fourth position holders were given Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively.
J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association also organised First Jammu and Kashmir Kesari Title -2013 on the occasion. Under the contest wrestler Bhadur Khan of Jammu lifted the Kesari title by defeating wrestler Ajay Sharma of Udhampur. Similarly Murad Ali of Jammu got third position while wrestler Balwan Singh of Reasi secured fourth position in the wrestling competition.
Cash awards of Rs. 20,000, Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 were also given to the first, second, third and fourth winners of the first Jammu and Kashmir Kesari Tile -2013.
On the occasion, World Champion and Olympic Medalist, Wrestler Sushil Kumar and his coach Yashvir Singh were also honoured with cash award of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively by the Organising Committee.
District Administration has made elaborate arrangements of security, traffic regulations, drinking water, power supply and sanitation etc.
The wrestling competition which was scheduled for 11th October, 2013 could not conclude due to heavy rain and remaining part was completed today with 32 bouts which include wrestlers from England, India, Belarus and Ukraine also.

Wrestlers of MLIRC shine at Mysore Dasara Wrestling competition
BELGAUM OCT 18 : The Wrestlers of Maratha Light Infantry put up an splendid show at All India Invitational Mysore Dasara Wrestling competition held recently at Mysore. The Wrestlers won 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze medals in the event.
Sepoy Anand S H won the prestigious Karnatak Rajya Kesari award. Havaldar Praveen Shewale, Havaldar Prakash Yargatti and Sepoy Anand S H won the Gold medals, Sepoy Sandeep Kumar, Lnk Krishant Sawant Sepoy Anurudha Dabekar and Sepoy Sameer Patil won the Bronze medals in the competition
Brigadier Santosh Kurup congratulated the wrestlers on their achievement. All the triumphant wrestlers were given a warm welcome by the MLIRC Jawans when they arrived at the Railway station
Guruji Ka Akhara

Sitting outside a small non-descript building near the Sadar Bazaar fly-over, Ram Chander Yadav, a retired pehalwan waxes eloquent about the Akhara that he runs nearby. Called Guruji Ka Akhara, the place has nearly 35 youngsters learning the art of grappling.
Established in 1885, by his grand- father Kalidin Yadav alias Mast pehalwan, the akhara has seen many ups and downs. An avid wrestler, Mast Pehalwan put his heart and soul into the akhara. Owning a butter shop in Gol Bazaar, he would take a small donation from the residents and shop- owners to run the show. “People used to pay one to one and a half annas as donation,†says Ram Chander. Those were the days when wrestlers unlike today, used to fight for their name and the name of the akhara.Those who won were presented with angochas and the better ones were given safas or headgear. In 1929, Mast pehalwan passed away and with this also passed the baton of running the akhara into the hands of his son Chote lal Yadav, also known as guruji.
What goes into the making of an akhara. According to Ram Chander, the soil of the akhara is made up of dahi,sarso ka tel and matha. “All these things are then mixed with the soil to make it soft,†says Ram Chander, sipping tea.What does it take to become a pehalwan? According to Ram Chander, boys of the age group of 10 to 12 can enrol themselves in the akhara for training which includes traditional dand and baithak, wielding the muqdar and using the dumb bells. They have to be on milk diet and also do traditional jobs like rolling and tilling the soil. As the pehalwans grow in age, they are given more serious exercises. They are also encouraged to train with senior wrestlers to hone up their skills. Once they reach the age of 16, they are ready to take part in the dangals.
The fights are organised during the Naag Pachami festival when it is raining, informs Ram Chander. They are also held during Raksha bandhan. Thirty-five wrestlers are already enrolled in the Akhara and are given rigourous training before being allowed to take part in competitions.
The akhara is holding the Akhil Bharatiya Mast Pehalwan Dangal these days in which 82 wrestlers from all over the country such as Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajput Centre Fatehgarh are taking part.
But there is no encouragement for this kind of traditional wrestling style, feels Ram Chander. He rues the days of the British when dangals in each district were organised by the police chiefs. The state government does not provide any assistance to us, says Bhagwan Chand Yadav alias Babu pehalwan, sitting next to his brother. “Unlike the states of Maharashtra, Punjab, Delhi there is no encouragement for this dying wrestling style. We gave a petition to Mulayam Singh Yadav,a one- time wrestler himself when he was the chief minister, but nothing happened. No help came forward,†says a dejected Bhagwan Yadav. The Akhara is being run on donation which the shop keepers and residents of the area willingly give, he says. Chattar Singh of 8 Jats did the akhara proud by winning the nationals in Chikmaglur in 1980. He also won the crown of Haryana Kesari.

Mustafa lifts Fakhre Lahore Dangal title

LAHORE – Mustafa pehalwan beat Sarwar Sayin pehalwan to lift Fakhr-e-Lahore Dangal title here at the jam-packed Iqbal Park Wrestling Stadium on Sunday.
Mustafa pehalwan proved too hot for Sarwar Sayin pehalwan and after 10 minutes, he defeated his opponent and won the title.
In other competitions of the event, Asmat pehalwan defeated Arshad pehalwan, Aqib pehalwan beat Jhara pehalwan and Mama pehalwan outclassed Aamir pehalwan. The most interesting match of the event was played between Chiri pehalwan and Chamkeela pehalwan which ended in a draw while the matches between Kala Shahporiya pehalwan and Azhar pehalwan and Nomi pehalwan and Nadir pehalwan also ended in draw.
MNA Pervaiz Malik was the chief guest on the occasion along with MPA Khawaja Salman Rafiq who gave away title belt to the winner.
Speaking at the occasion, Pervaiz Malik said: “Mohsin Arshad has great contributions in promoting culturally rich game across the province which is really appreciable. He has been fulfilling his duties in a befitting way. The presence of big crowd to witness the title matches is a proof of the event’s success.”
