Benia Pahalwan from J and K Police lifted the Baba Peer Monga Wrestling Championship held at border village Tohana Tibba in R. S Pura.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports, R. S. Chib, was the Chief Guest in the valedictory function. A total of 60 bouts were fought.
In the main bout, Benia defeated Naseeb Ali from Delhi. Chib awarded a cash prizes of Rs 25,000 to the winner pahalwan while Naseeb Ali pocketed a sum of Rs 5,000.
The event was organised by the Chibhal Biradari in memory of Peer Monga Nath every year. Earlier, before 1947, this tournament used to be held at Watala (now in PoK) in which the wrestlers from undivided Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir used to participate.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that such events promote the taste of youth towards sports and games. He also presented mementos to ex-pahalwans of R S Pura.
Among others MLA Suchetgarh, Ch oudhary Sham Lal, SDM R S Pura, Ashwani Khajuria, President J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ex-MP, T. S Bajawa, SSP Jammu, Anand Jain, SSP Rural, Shailender Singh and President Dangal Committee, Prakash Singh were also present on the occasion.
